Hi there,

I'm upgrading my cpu to match my rtx 3080 as I've only got an i7 8700 currently in my rig thats used primarily for gaming (Taking recommendations)

I'm wondering why the Ryzen 7 7800X3D seems to be almost unanimously the best cpu to pair with a 3080 when there are cpus that are clearly quite a bit better. What makes this so good compared to the 7900X3D for example?

There's plenty of reviews on the www about how it outperforms CPU's in the market, due to it's 3D v-cache. Here's one that talks in depth about the processor;

It is mostly a price/performance ratio. Is the incremental cost of the 7900X3D over the 7800X3D justified in the performance difference? In most use-cases the answer is no. If the 7900X3D were suddenly $100 cheaper than the 7800X3D, the recommendations would change.

7900x3d and 7950x3d only have one CCD with the 3d cache. Core parking is required to use them properly for gaming, and it doesn't always work like it should.
