7870 or 7950

Basically, I'm building a PC soon, and I'm wondering what graphics card I should get. I was thinking of getting a 7950, but I heard that the extra performance that it has over the 7870 is wasted if you're not gaming on anything over 1080p. Is there any truth to this? That do you guys think?

It is true if you are not taking the future games into consideration. Slowly the requirements of the games will grow.
HD 7950 is slightly better than the HD 7850 if you look at the benchmarks but in real life it makes a significant difference.
Get a HD 7950 and you won't regret that decision.
