hahahah, The 1800 XT wasnt even in the reviews. HAHA, And that was against mostly SLI setups. Bottom line, The 7900 GT is a Shark In a Guppy POOL. 7900 GT is beast and its killing its compitition. Hate it or love it. There can ony be one Middleweight CHAMPION OF THE WORLD!!!!!!! DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING. Winner by a second round KO, the new champion of the world, 7900 GT. WHOAAA.....what, what! Are those ATI fanboys in the corner chanting that the match was rigged...

the bottom line:

"...If however you have an X1800 XT or XL, moving to a GeForce 7900 GTX or GT may give you a good boost in your visual gameplay quality..."

nobody tops [H] telling it like it is ...not what you'd like it to be.

I guess this last post answered my question. You are simply a fanboy troll out for laughs and incapable of accepting or admitting reality. I shouldn't waste the time on you.

The 7900GT is a great card for the money. But it's not the X1800XT killer you think it is. As good a move as NV made releasing such a nice card like the 7900GT, ATI countered it by having $300 X1800XT's available. I'd like to see these 256MB cards compared. My guess is only COD2 will take a hit from less memory. But For the same price as a 7900GT, I'd grab the X1800XT and I am a 6800U and 7800GT owner.

Read it and weep. X1800XT on newegg cheaper than any of their 7900GT's. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102007

Yeah, a few lines in their conclusion seem to be written by someone other than the reviewer. I mean, they don't add up to what they benchmarked/played, not to mention how much they hated the shimmering issues and felt it negatively impacted the gaming experience. Very odd wording, but I doubt by any means would they suggest a X1800XT owner go and buy a 7900GT but rather the 7900 GTX and the X1800XL owner go to 7900GT. I reread that many times when I first read the review, and something still doesn't jive.

   , BOO< BOO, Hooo. I purchased a 7900 GT at newegg when there was a 1800XT. Awwwwww, sucks. Maybe I could have fit a Accelero X1 cooler on there, I always wanted one of those. It does have a pretty color, red heatsink. And it would look good with the accelero cooler. Awwww, well guess ill just settle for a 7900GT with 24 pixel pipelines and just put a Vf700 on there and oc it it a monster. Its not as "hot" (Im talking about heat here guys) LOL as the 1800 XT. 😱 OK, all joking aside, first off both these cards are neck and neck, especially when u oc the 7900 GT.The only reason you didnt find a $299 gt on there is because they are sold out. DUH! Newegg isnt the only site with 7900 gts, theres like three other sites with 7900 gts, the lowest is about $289. Pricegrabber people  Honestly I would love a 1800XT and the accelero cooler I wanted. I mean if they all perform almost the same I wouldnt prefer one over the other. The only reason i went Nvidia in a case where the cards are neck and neck and u win one way or the other, is because Ive never used ATI and Ive heard so many bad things about their drivers. Always seems to be some issues with the catalyst. If the drivers and control panels are as good as nvidia I wouldnt mind a 1800 XT. Also, whats up with this so called Shimmering. From what ive heard its botherd Nvidia cards since the FX series. And i havnt seen a thing, I looked at the screen shots that are supposed to show how shimmering in Half life 2 and I couldnt see any difference. Is this one of those things only 24 hour a day gamers and computer graphic whizzes notice. Is someone that plays 360, and then pc games for example going to notice this shimmering issue? Just wondering.

Wow, you can be serious. good to know.

You'll be thrilled with the 7900GT. I'm stuck with a 7800GT, but at least it was only $255.

The shimmering can not be seen in screenshots, but only in motion while playing. Most people don't ever see it. But many people have complained about it, some sites have dug into it and others haven't touched the issue. Like [H] said, they knew of it but never saw it before playing on a widescreen 24". But it sounds like they will not let it go until NV fixes it. The thing is, if you see it, and it bugs you, disable the optimization. Problem is, for those lucky enough to own such a monitor, 1920x1200 is a stressful native res to try and maintain in some games, especially if needing to knock down performance by disabling optimizations. But it does make you question what settings to use when comparing cards. (driver defaults vs optimizations off)

Today is the first day I have seen the $299 X1800XT on Newegg, thx to Cleeves link. The $349 HIS has been out since before the 7900GT launch. Who knows, they may sell out too and make that a hard to grab alternative. Both great cards and either one can win depending on the games played.

Yeah, Both do look really great. Ocing the 7900GT makes of for the slight flak it takes in some games against the 1800XT, but they are all neck and neck. Honestly, the 1800XT looks great at $299, Its an OEM version thats why the price is reduced but soon enough all 1800Xt's should be down. One reason I was interested in the 1800XT is it can be easily fitted with the accelero X2 heatsink (which is really quiet and cools like a beast), and I wanted that heatsink. The 7900GT has a smaller pcb than the previous 7800's making that cooling option impossible. And I might do a little research on the ATI drivers. like I said Im not familiar with the catalyst drivers but I want to see how they work and whats different from Nvidia Forceware drivers. The 7900 Gt fan kinda bothers me. The thing about tiny fans like that is the spin so fast and create a bad noise. My old 5500 FX has a tiny fan similar to the 7900 gt but howls and is really noticable in a quiet room. Those smaller fans also collect dust under them really quick. I was thinking about the Zalman VF700. But I dont know if the fan noise on 12 v is loud or not.

Honestly after gaming on this FX5500 for so long and seeing the type of quality i see I dont think ill notice shimmering on the 7900 im getting:lol: , Yeah, it must be on bigger monitors. Hopefully I dont get it.

Hate it or love it. There can ony be one Middleweight CHAMPION OF THE WORLD!!!!!!! DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING. Winner by a second round KO, the new champion of the world, 7900 GT. WHOAAA.....

How could I respond to such well thought out points as "DING DING", "CHAMPION OF THE WORLD", or "WHOAAAA"?
Do you think that shouting the loudest makes you the most right?

I have an idea... instead of whooping around like an tool, let's concentrate on the facts:

1. A stock X1800 XT will, in the majority of benches, beat a 7900 GT

2. The X1800 XT does not have the limitation that the 7900 series has of no OpenEXR HDR & AA at the same time

3. The X1800 XT handles shader heavy games better than a 7900 GT, and this gives it better long term viability.

The 7900 GT is a great card, certainly not a bad choice by any means... especially for the overclockers.

But given the choice the X1800 XT has a bit more going for it stock, and certainly has nothing to apologize for.

And before you respond, you should know I can only answer valid points. Whooping and Dinging will get you nothing, except maybe some embarrasing observations you probably don't want to hear.

Before you start running those lips look at my last 2 above posts u sorry @ss excuse for a human being  . Let me post it for u so your illiterate excuse for a nerd bum can read clearly. What, you want a link to dictionary.com too

I was replying to the last page, arse, where you called us names...

"Nerd"? What the hell are you doing on a computer hardware forum if you consider that an insult? What, are you just stopping in here on your way to the 'hood? I might need a dictionary, but you need a link to reality.com.

But I digress I see you have acknowledged the error in your ways. More power to you, homey.

I wouldn't worry too much about the shimmering. If it's that bad they'll fix it in a driver update.

Have fun with the 7900... it will take you places your 5500 couldn't even dream of.

Hahaha  . Just a little jokes thrown back and forth 😀 Thats all Cleeve. No hard feelings  Well yeah the 180Xt is a great canidate for $299. I would have got that but I think newegg dropped the price right after I bought the 7900GT. But both of them are really neck and neck, and the 7900 is a good overclocker. I guess its just preference. Like whether you like the Steelers or Eagles( their superbowl team) both are good teams but are a little different similar to the 7900 gt and 1800XT. I Havnt heard the fan on the 7900Gt, but I have a VF700 I ordered (hope it isnt loud on 12v) so i think that will be better than the stock fan.
