Well, I have a 7970, i'm debating on to cross fire it with another in about 1-2 months or should I go with a 7990?. My last decision is, if I do decide to go with a 7990 what is the next one up in performance? A website said the next best one is Radeon R9 290X but that seems to pricey, is there another third one to choose from?

This is mostly for Bf4 on highest settings

The R9-290 is pretty substantially better than the 7970, although I haven't recently checked the price delta.

In this review, at 1080p the r9-290 outperforms the 7990.

As to if the price increase is worth it, it really comes down to a conversation between you and your wallet. The 290 is definitely substantially more powerful.
2 7970's will be cheaper than a 7990, and you will get better performance (marginally) since they don't have to downclock the chips to maintain thermal limits.

The R9-290x is definitely the most powerful single chip card currently made for AMD. You can also look at the R9-290 (non X) which should be close in price to the 7970 and will give you better performance.

If you go with one of the R9's make sure you get an aftermarket cooling solution card (Asus DCU II, MSI Twin-Frozr, Gigabyte Windforce....) as the default or "Reference" design is extremely loud.

I was leaning more towards crossfire the 7970 after seeing the price of the 7990, along with that if the R9-290 non x is similar to 7970 but better performance, how much of an increase of performance vs price? I do want a better card or cross fire to get better performance but whats the R2 price vs the per performance increase over the 7970?
