8.1 doesnt include word???

i have had windows 8.1 for a couple of weeks now. Im actually getting used to it and would almost say i like it, but then.....i needed to use word and i guess $100 bucks for windows doesnt get you word, excel or powerpoint anymore. They want $10 bucks a month. This is enough to make me want to rip out my eye balls in digust, am i over reacting, why havent i seen out cry over this before?

Windows never, ever included Word/Excel/etc. That has always been a separate product, MS Office.

I don't think M$ ever offered their Office suite with one of their OS. It has always been optional. If you don't want to pay the high price, look into:
http://www.openoffice.org/ by Sun. I've been using it for years.

i had never built a pc before so i guess i assumed it was a package deal...thanks for the info i will look into apache open office

I've been using windows 8.1 since it came out and I actually didn't even notice. I use Ubuntu majority of the time for my school work (Comp sci student) so I've gotten use to Libre and just instantly installed that on my windows boot as well.

Another option is LibreOffice. A fork of OpenOffice.
