Hello TH Community.
I was looking to build a new rig with the new 9th gen from intel and new z390 chipsets but something is bugging me.The mobo i've like to buy is MSI MPG z390 gaming pro carbon ac i've like to team that up with i5 9600k and overclock it to 5ghzish.But the problem i've encountered is this mobo has 8+4 pin cpu power socket.But the psu that comes bundled with the case i've like to buy for my build has only 4+4 pin cpu cable.Will this cause any problems for me ?.

Motherboard ; https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-Z390-GAMING-PRO-CARBON-AC
Psu ; http://www.coolermaster.com/powersupply/masterwatt-lite-series/masterwatt-lite-230v-700w/

I really like this mobo but if it will cause problems i could go with ;
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-Z390-GAMING-PLUS
which i think has only 8 pin socket.I'm new to this overclocking and power and stuff like that i've always build my own pc's but it was always entry level pcs this is going to be my first unlocked cpu from intel.

Solution

If mine hits 5GHz with 12 threads instead of the 9600K's 6 on an 8...

Meaning that i should look for a better psu.
Any recommendations for case + psu combo for this build.

you only need to to use the 8 pin for the motherboard to work, the extra 4 pin connector is only for extreme overclocking which you might need later but only if you really plan on upgrading to an i9 or 9700k and are interested in overclocking very heavily then you may need a better power supply with the extra pins.

The power supply will be okay as you really only need to use the 4+4 Pin on the 8 pin socket. The other 4 pin socket is not really needed unless extreme overclocking and the 9600K just will not require that much power at just 6 cores...My 8700K is 6 cores and 12 threads and only requires 8 pin CPU for power...

A better power supply like the Seasonic Focus Gold at 650w or 750w would be a much better power supply but not critical, just look at something like a Seasonic when you next upgrade.

I dont want to and dont need to overclock extremely thats why im going with 9600k its max turbo frequency is 4.6 i just like to have stable system with 4.6 to 5.0 ghzish

You will have no issues at stock or even a overclock with that power supply and just use the 4+4 on the 8 Pin socket...

So i'll be fine with 5.0 ghz with only 4+4 ?

If mine hits 5GHz with 12 threads instead of the 9600K's 6 on an 8 pin, you should be okay...Just factor in a better power supply at some point when you next upgrade..

Thanks for the help.I appreciate it.
