8 and 4 pin CPU connector

Hey guys,

I have a question. I am building a PC now and my motherboard has a 4 pin and a 8 pin CPU connector. My psu only have a 4+4 cpu connector. I saw a cable from my graphic card from 6 pin to 8 pin but 1 pin is missing on the 8 pin.

So my question is can i use the 4+4 pin and plug it into the 4 pin connector and the 8 pin. Or can i use the 6 tot 8 pin in the 8 pin CPU power connector?

Which motherboard and CPU are you using?

The cpu is a Intel core i7 4790k. The motherboard is a Msi z97 mpower. And if you need this information the Psu is a Seasonic m12ii evo 620w.

Connect the EATX 4+4 cable to the 8 pin connector. You don't need to use the 4 pin if the PSU supplies an 8 pin cable. Don't use a PCI-E cable for the CPU (it shouldn't fit).

So the 4+4 in the 8 pin? And no 1 4 pin in the 4 pin and the other in the 8 pin?

4+4 in the 8 pin connector. No socket 1150 Intel CPU requires the optional 4 pin connector if the 8 pin already is connected.

It's for more additional power if doing serious overclocking , The 8 pin is just fine.
