Instead of just one I thought I'd throw in the results from 3 systems for your perusal. It's the same Palit GTX 980Ti Super Jetstream I have swapped between the 3 systems to get these results. I should say the Xeon system is a dual processor system.

THE 920 outperforms the 5930k?

Not really, I wouldn't take it as read. Apart from the graphics card the two system were completely different. The 920 was a very light setup with little more than the OS configured, it's basically a test rig now. The 5930K is a much heavier setup with multiple graphics cards, hard drives and a much heavier software package. Even though the 920 is running on an SSD I couldn't go back to the 920 now as the system is that much slower overall.

But according to the overall score the 920 rig is faster in the VR test correct?

In this single test, yes but by a very small margin. The point of the benchmark wasn't to show which is best but to merely show they're in the same ballpark and that it's very high.

To do a proper comparison the two systems need to be in a comparable state for OS version and patching, graphics driver versions, hardware and multiple runs of the test to create a profile of each system. The two systems were not in a comparable state and the results I've posted can't really be compared directly because I don't know how consistent they are.
