Anyway: WD6400AAKS, Q6600 OEM, Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Tuniq Tower, Lite-On SATA burner, GA-EP45-DS3L, G.Skill DDR2-800 are good choices. You could get the Sunbeam Core Contact, aka Tuniq Tower v2. I found a reviewer who managed to fit the Core Contact in the NZXT Apollo, btw.

The 9600GSO is perfect if this computer is used for work, office, server stuff, Solitaire. It will stink in Crysis and similar. Tell us more about the
purpose of this PC.

NZXT Apollo - good value for $50. Only 2 fans, but the 9600GSO isn't that hot.

CoolerMaster 650W PSU - there are lots of better brands, and 650W is overkill here. This Earthwatts 500W is also $50 and powerful enough.

While some of the items you listed are better then what I’m suggesting, the point of the build is gaming right? So, I think the money is better spent on items that will enhance your gaming performance.

Cheap by some standards, but it does what a case is supposed to do. It’s harddrive cage is also half the width than normal, so you can install basically any graphics card into it, (just don’t have a HDD on the same level as the GPU) There is 12 inches between the back and the HDD cage. Far as I know the 4850x2 is the largest pcb design so far at 11.5inch.

Well it’s not a quad core, but it will pair nicely with the p5q pro. Quads don’t overclock as nice on the p5q pro. Most games will not utilize all four cores anyways and this should be plenty of power even at stock speeds. You should be able to oc this to 3.6ghz w/o any effort.

P5Q pro natively supports 1066, manuel says it can even support 1200. This ram is on the QVL list. Its cheap, looks cool, and is even cheaper if that rebate comes in. I believe 1066ram will allow you to overclock further then 800 (not sure on that, but I think generally its true)

This should be leaps and bounds better then that 9600 GSO you have listed. Since the title is “$800 gaming build” I’m going to assume it’s for games, so you should spend some more on the gpu.

actually idk... my 9600GT plays crysis on all high (except for shader setting, i don't like how it looks on high setting) on my 19" widescreen 1440x900. very playable, wonderful graphics... im guessing the 9600GSO would easily be able to do medium settings, and if you're one of those people who game on a 17 or 19" 4:3 ration monitors, maybe even high!

4850 will certainly rape both of them though. i mean its meant to compete with the 9800GTX...

4830 might be a good choice though.

Don't get an open box MB, it's very risky. Get a new P5Q Pro for $100 or a GA-EP45-UD3R for $105.

Dump those hard disks. They offer 330GB in total for $81 and they're slow. Get a $70 WD6400AAKS, it's twice as big and much faster and costs less. Just make an 80GB partition for Windows.

Getting those two separate drives is crazy whether you "like partitioning in windows" or not. The new 640GB drives are much faster than those older drives. Just use your Gentoo disk to partition the drive. Whatever it takes to avoid those slow drives.
