80c i7 6700k safe?

under the load of just running tom clancys the division on ultra, im getting 80*c with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.just trying to figure out if this is typical or not.

Not typical at all. You have done something wrong when you installed your cooler. With that cooler even with some overclock you shouldn't reach more than 60-65 degrees.

would a tad too much thermal paste cause it to go up that high?

An excessive amount of thermal paste might cause problems, but are you sure that is it? Is your cooler spinning? Can you post a picture of your PC inside.

Ok first, what is your case, second is your CPU fan spinning (can't see from the picture), third are those 2 fans intake or exhaust (refer to the fan on the left as a rear fan and the fan on the right as a top fan) tell me what each fan does (take air in or get air out).

i have an antec three hundred case. and yes the cpu fan is spinning. the two fans in the picture are both exhaust with the two fans in the front of the case (not in the picture) as intake

Hm then it might be actually a voltage problem. Can you check in your bios what are your CPU voltage settings?

So when you hit 80 degrees is it still on 1.232 or is it set to auto? Can you try setting it manually and disabling any automatic adjustments?

with the asus b150 aura mobo i cannot change any settings to the voltage

ill load up a game right now and see if the voltage jumps

its sitting at 1.280 right now. so it must me jumping up.

Thought you had a Z170 board along with the 6700K. Well if it is going past 1.28 then that would explain the temperatures. Since it's running stock speed it should be staying at around 1.2v

i may try to disable the turbo boost and see if it helps
