I recently installed a samsung 850 evo M.2 ssd onto my asus z170 motherboard, but its not being detected by my Bios. I found it in my device manager, and it says the drivers are up to date. However I can't find it in my computer. I plan on just using it as a drive for recording, and to boot my OS. How can I get access to this ssd?

Tried installing the driver, it gives me this error message;

I've made sure the drive is properly seated with the correct screw, and the odd part is that the samsung magician has detected the drive.

I'm running windows 10, and the driver linked is for a 950, there was no driver available for an 850. As far as I know my drive should be showing up in my computer unless M.2 doesn't work the same as a 3.5" ssd

I believe this is probably the case, however I can't figure out why I can find the drive in my computer, but it shows up in the magician and "my devices" window.

Yeah, my bad I mentally read 960EVO and assumed NVME.

Do you not see it in disk management, or are you trying to install the OS onto the drive and getting an error?

I have that board, and there is a setting in the bios under advanced mode called onboard devices configuration. Under that there is a setting that is by default SATA Express and you need to change that to M.2 to recognize the device as the two share the same CPU connects. It should fix your issue whether adding on or setting up as a boot drive. Sorry for the confusion.

I've gone into my bios and switched it from SATA express to M.2, and it is now showing it as a boot option. However I still don't see it in disk management. I'm a little apprehensive to migrate over to a drive I can't even access right now.

I figured it out, this was my first time adding a new SSD, and I did not realize I had to initialize the drive in order to use it. I have since done so and formatted it and it now appears in my computer. Thank you for your help!
