hey every1... i am going to buy 8500gt from canada... i will be using this card for games...NFS mostwanted, F.E.A.R, etc will this card can play these games. i am going with this card because of DX10 capability... and it is the only dx10 card under 100. so should i buy it??

Can you wait maybe 1 more month? Thats when the ATI 2400 and 2600 cards will be availible. If they arent good, or even if they are great, theyre going to bring the price of the GF 8500's down more than likely

I like cheap cards as much as the next guy, but I would not recommend buying the 8500gt. I'm afraid it won't give you much peformance at all with DX10 games. A better option would be to save up for an 8800 GTS 320MB. You can get one online for about $280 at some sites, and the prices will go down when ATI's lineup comes out. Either that, or check out ATI's mid-range cards.

If I gave you one ,itd be speculation. If its better than the 8500, maybe just slightly more than the 8500 at thia time. But like I said, at this point its all speculation, tho I think waiting at least 1 more week will help, because by then we will have some benches on them, and maybe some price points also

can't they play need for speed most wanted. i have listened that these card get 5.1 experience in Vista.
I'm sure it will play NFS, but I think you're missing the point others were making... the 8500GT is a bad deal for most people. The performance of that card has been severely gimped by Nvidia... yes, it does support DX10, but that's really about all that it has going for it in terms of gaming. There are better cards out there in the same price range that you should be considering.

Honestly if you want to get a card right now that's DX10 the only way to go is a 8800GTS. Otherwise wait a week or two and see what both ATi and Nvidia have to offer then. If DX10 isn't that important for you I would go with a x1950pro, or the cheaper 7600GT.

It should be able to surf the net around 15fps.
Only if he's using a dial-up accelerator.

I agree. If the DX10 perf is anything like the DX9 perf on these cards then DX10 games will be next to unplayable. The 8series drivers aren't what they could be either.

Good cards for video decoding though.

This card gets 4.7 for graphics. I should know, I have one. For a score of 5.1 you will likely need a 8600 GTS or an 8800 GTS.

As for DX10 games, my DX7 graphics card played DX9 games fine, for what it could play.

The 8500, IMO, is a card for suckers.

Evil advice I say... evil. :p

The 8800GTS gets a 5.9, even the 320 MB version. Not like those numbers really mean anything.

I would say spend the extra $20-30 (30-40 CAN??) dollars and get an 8600 gt. Much better than the 8500, still DX10 (not that I put much stock in that), great video decoding, and performs almost as well as the DX9 cards in that price range. Or, and this is the best option, wait for ATI's cards and mow some lawns. Save some cash, see which is faster, let competion drive down prices and buy a better card. 8800 gts or it's ATI counterpart would serve you much better than jumping the gun on a cheap card that wont allow you to play games all that well. I think $100+ for a card that doesn't play anything well is a total waste.

Not a good choice. Truth is the 7900GS will out perform that card. It will even run DX10 games better even though you wouldn't have all the bells and wistles of DX10 enabled. Overall it a budget card that isn't going to do much justice for any DX10 games. The 8500, IMO, is a card for suckers.

haha, its like buying a tractor that comes with mags or a muffler....
