For what it's worth I had a 8500GT and returned it for a 8600GT XXX

8500GT / 8600GT XXX

GRAPHICS 4.9 / 5.9

GAMING GRAPHICS 5.2 / 5.6

Windows Experience Index-subscores

Not that they mean anything, just in case anyone was interested.

I just built my sister a pc and with a 7600gt it gets a 5.2 in vista, I had the choice between the 8500 and the 7600gt but went with the tried and true 7600.

I would avoid the card you're looking at right now. I really think that it would be a waste of your money to buy this card, just because of DX10.

Just because the card is a "DX10" card, doesn't neccessarily mean that it'll play them well. (I would imagine that an 8500GT would be out performed in DX9 games by other DX9 only cards, how much better (or worse) would it perform in a more graphically intense DX10 game when they come out?

If you want a DX10 card make it worth you while and buy one that has the raw power to play the future DX10 games.

Maybe you can get a 8600GT or a 8600GTS. Here in South Africa, the 8600GT is only slightly more expensive than a 7600GT (which used to be a very good bang for buck card)

Something to think about regarding DX10 compatablility, the reason I don't put much stock in a card being "DX10" is that 3 year old integrated graphics are DX9 compliant, but that doesn't mean they are any good.
