I was wondering what kind of overclocking numbers one should expect if they bought a 8600GTS and went for the max OC with air cooling (Thermalright HR-03 plus or VF-900Cu) I've heard they might do 800 core with the stock heatsinks? Does anyone have any info. on this and what one should expect to be able to achieve. Any relevant info. is much appreciated. Thanks.

I think, on a good air cooler, a clock of 825 or so. On the stock i belive the highest you could go safley is around 775. I would focus my efforts on memory clock, as the memory bus is the bottlenecking force in the card, by clocking thsi higher you get more bandwith and a better preformer.

I was thinking without volt mods, but either way it seems that it overclocks very well on just air cooling. The only thing I hope nvidia will do in the near future which seems like it could be a very simple change is drop the prices of the 8600gt, 8600gts,and 8500gt then release a 256 bit memory interface version of the 8600GTS core and call it the 8600GTX. It would probably fly past the 128bit gts if they chose to make it. OR if they wanted to they could call it the 8800GT since it would be so fast. Wither way they need to make it so it doesn't get so slow with higher effects/ resolutions, etc.
