I am looking to replace my 7950GT with 2x 8600GTS in SLI, I currently like the MSI NX8600GTS-T2D256E-OC. (I know this is going against advice to sell my old card and buy an 8800GTX, but that just isn't in my price range. Nor is an 8800GTS, as I want to get SLI.) If anyone has used a different brand, and can recommend them, then I might consider. I definitely want an 8600GTS, as it is what is in my price range for SLI AND DX10. I only have a monitor capable of 1024 X 768 (I know, I'm going to get a new one soon :) ) so I don't need lots of video memory, as the most graphics intense game i might be playing is Supreme Commander., so 256MB in SLI will do.

Also, I want to get it from a good seller! (NOT ebay!) I live in the usa, and I really like NewEgg, so they are preferred.

The card is here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127284

A 8800GTS 320mb version would smoke 2 of those easily regardless of SLi.

SLi is only a good option when you have 2 very high cards that you want to use for it. 8600GTS's are only mid-range cards.

Buy a 8800GTS..

Good luck. 😀

Thanks EnforcerFX. This is basically what I have decided on doing. As you suggested, I will get an 8800GTS. My next question would be is SLi worth it with 8800GTS's? (are they considered high end?)

8800GTX would be better than 2 8800GTS in SLI. When he said high end he meant 2 8800GTX's in SLI because you can't just get the next highest card and outperform that SLI setup.

I definitely can't afford a GTX. Never mind GTX SLi. I know that a GTS SLi configuration will preform in the realm of what I need. and second, my case is too small for a GTX. I measured it and I just BARLEY fit a GTS. And I just got this case a week ago, so I can't get a different one. (and I like it too much anyway!)

Although I do see what Prof_Chaos means.

Depending on how much is in your budget. Since your saying your getting a new monitor soon, I would invest or save up and get that. The 320mb version is at its best at around 1280x1024-1440x900 resolution. While the 640mb version does its best at 1600x1200 and higher.

I would say 1 8800GTS and a nice monitor and your good to go.

Good luck. 😀
