hi, I got a really hard decision about CPU for my new PC, I need a PC for streaming 1080p 60fps on twitch, so I was thinking about 8700k or 8086k(its now cheeper than 8700k for 10$ in my city lol) but I noticed these new "refresh" series CPUs, so my question is how do you think i5-9600k will be enought for me or i better buy 8700k/8086k? (price difference is ~100euros, iam not looking for 9700k also its too expensive for me) its about 6core/6threads(9600k) vs 6core/12threads(8700k) gonna be streaming pubg, cs:go and dota2 mostly

Solution
*Edit: I would say The 8700k/8086K would be better for streaming than both the 9600K and 9700K because the 8th-gen i7 has hyper-threading while the 9th-gen refresh does not. More threads on the 8th-gen are better for streaming.
Same logic, different math. I'm still looking for the 8600K in those benchmarks.

You are saying 4C/8T vs 6C will be the same matchup as 6C/12T vs 8C. You are right in that we do not know yet which will give better performance, but considering the 8600K was only slightly better thank than the 7700K in whatever it did, I predict the 8700K will be better than the 9700K in multi-threaded workloads (such as streaming) because the number of cores and threads is greater in contrast to the previous comparison.

I see your logic but my view is it is based on a big assumption on how beneficial threads are over real cores. Now you may be proved correct when the benchmarks arrive but I would not say you are guaranteed to be correct. Also for me Intel would be making a big marketing mistake is the 9700/9700k performed worse than the 8700/8700k but we all know Intel can make big marketing mistakes.

I really think we need to see benchmarks before passing judgement.
