i am in the process of buying a new laptop and was wondering, will 8gb of RAM ever be a limiting factor when i game in the future? I am getting a laptop with a 970m btw.

Cheers.

thanks for the quick reply. How much longer will 8gb be "fine" for?

Oh i already have a dual 970 set up its just me being a bit greedy i guess. Its just laptop gaming has come a long way recently. Thanks for the help anyway

When you look at prebuilt desktops already coming w/ 8GB that's a sure sign that 8 is going by the wayside, prebuilts are notorious for being short with DRAM. There are already games out that call for and will use 8GB, that's not going to shrink, it will be going up. For new rigs I suggest at least 16GB

I have a secondary laptop for gaming. Consider buying your laptop used. It will save a lot of money and still get the performance. I would do this simply because it is not your main machine.

I completely forgot that it was possible to insert another stick or 3 of RAM in some laptops so the 8gb isnt a limitation for me now. Thanks for the help!

Ok thanks. I am always slightly wary of buying used items, especially ones worth over £1000. Can you give me some pointers about where the best place to buy used machined would be online other then ebay (keeping in mind i live in the UK)

I don't like recommending buying used items outside the US, because the US has better protection for this type of thing.
