My computer died. When it tries to boot it stops at C1. It was not OC.

I removed the HD, CD, & all cards & still get C1.

Any suggestions? MoBo? CPU?

Thanks,

Look for bulging(top)/leaking caps around the CPU on the motherboard.

I just replaced the caps myself because I had access to a desoldering
station at work.

C1 = Bad RAM.

I put the RAM in another computer & it worked.
Thanks,

Did you try plugging the ram back in? Maybe a bad seat? Try clearing the
cmos?

Thanks, I found 7 cap with bulging tops.
It looks like I need to get my solder system out & goto work this nextweek.
I have to map the board they are several different physical sizes.

I have other equipment that is 10 years old & do not have capacitor
problems. Did Epox get a new supplier sfter this board was produced. It is
a rev. 1 board.

I will have to try to find the caps local if I can.

Thanks again.

The bad cap problem is has been rampant in the industry for about five years
now. This website gives all the info:

Thanks for the site.

I wish they had named all of the brands of capacitors that were bad.
7 out of 8 of my "GSC" 6.3V 1000 ufd caps were bad.
I will be sure not to purchase any more MoBos that use that brand of
capacitor.

How long did it take to get the board back. I emailed Epox & never got any
answer.

I have made 4 Epox based computers for people, including mine, in the last
couple of years. They all have capacitors going bad going bad.

I don't want to have to pay or ask my friends to pay, since I made the
computers as a favor & they paid for the parts.

I just sent in an 8RDA+ for warranty repair, EPoX has a 2-year
warranty on their boards. They promise a 2-week turnaround time once the
board reaches them for the work, shipping to them is on your dollar,
return shipping is on theirs. I figured the under $12 to get it to them
was cheaper than buying a new board.
