9 Inch Magnavox without a remote

I have an old 9 inch Magnavox RD0945 and lost the remote. I can change the stations with the universal remote but I can't get the writing off the screen cause there's no exit button and you can't set the clock or timer except with the original remote. Is there anything I can do to simply wipe out the writing? Channel, etc?

You can get a substitute remote for you TV with the additional buttons you need but they run about $40 so I don't know if the TV justifies that expense to you.
