Hi so I am only 14 and i want to get into pc gaming. I only have a 1600x1024 monitor (some thing like that) and i was looking for which graphics card to buy. I want some thing that will RUN all the games for the next 3or four years. It doesnt have to max it out. I also live in canada and the 970 is like 150$ more so idk. I am upgrading my old oem dell pc by buying a new gpu and psu and i am earning mobey over the summer to pay for it. So which would be the best option for me? Thank u in advance.

Ps i am looking for a small form factpr graphics card to fit in this mini atx case. So recommendations would be great. I also plan to upgrade to 1080 and maybe 1440 not sure. But i dont have to max out the games.

Yes, that would be a good GPU and excellent PSU. The difference between 1600x102 and 1920x1080 is not that much. For longevity the GTX 970 is a good choice, should be good for at least 2 years. On your resolution it should play all on high/ultra settings at 60 fps or more.

So instead of spensing that extra money on a 1080p monitor should i just get the 970?

Between the GTX 960 and 970 the 970 is much better. It will enable you to play all current and future games at your current resolution. For now at ultra settings, maybe in 2-3 years at mid settings. In 2-3 years the GTX 960 will let you play only at the lowest settings, if not at all because of the 2gb memory.

If you want both monitor and GPU you might consider a R9 280x or a 4gb R9 380. Both are cheaper than a GTX 970, perform much better than the GTX960 and have more vram.

At that resolution, you could go for the 960 instead or similar.

And have a pretty good speed in games. Even if you update to 1080, that video card will still perform very well. Look at the benchmarks here at toms and other sites for proof.

And for example I'm running only a ATI 260x at 1920 by 1200 and still get 60fps+ in most games. And by the link i have above, my video card isn't high on the list. My card will last for another 2-3 years before it will get too slow (providing i stick to 1080 resolution.

Good GPU but you should better buy a 650W corsair PSU cause all psu's have a % of efficiency which is the number of watts they give. If you get a XFX PSU it wont really give 550W but 450 or little more/less. Plus that in some years the psu wont be able to give % of its efficiency better have one more strong PSU which will last for years. I have a 960 and I have 650W PSU. You should get the same. Bootcher I disagree with you cause the 960 is a high end card and will remain a strong card for at least 5-6 years as my old GTS 250 which was out at 2009 and can still play the latest games on med/high settings.

I hope I helped here

You have it backwards Stavrosmast, a PSU rated for 550 watts will pull ~680 watts from the wall and is rated to deliver that 550 watts when needed. This efficiency will slowly decline in time, that is true. A good PSU will however last you a long time, I have a gold rated Antec that is going strong for about 8 years now.

The GTX 960 is definitely not a high-end card, it is an entry-level, maybe mid level GPU. It already is not so good because of the limited 2gb vram, for 1080p you will want 3-4 gb of vram if you want to play mid-high settings comfortably in the next 2-3 years.
