Hey, so, I just bought a cheap (used) 9600 GT for an old system I had laying around my house. I installed it and saw it needed a 6 pin power connector, which my psu hasn't. Anyway, I tried it out without the 6pin and it worked.. Installed the drivers, tested it with GPU-Z and everything is fine. However, when I went to try it out at league of legends, it simply ran it really bad, at 20 fps in 1650x1050, all very low settings. I know by that it isn't working properly cause the system had an old Ati X1600 which ran at 60fps at that same res and settings.
Tomorrow I'll be grabbing one of thos 2 Molex to 6Pin adapters.

My question is: the problem of the card underperforming really bad is because it wasn't supplied as it should? or is the card faulty? I'm confused.

Solution
Correct, the issue is almost certainly that the card isn't getting enough power.

Ideally you would get a proper PSU with the correct PCIe cable, but if this is a secondary system and you don't want to invest in it then an adapter might suffice.

As I thought..

It is indeed a secondary system. But it almost has nothing conected to the PSU, it's just the mobo, cpu, 2 fans and a 5200rpm hd.
It's a 550w LC Power with 2 12v rails one with 16A and another with 18A. I don't think it's gonna be a problem, but if it doesn't work, I won't invest more money and time on it..

I was just wondering why would the 9600 perform so bad in such low settings at such not demanding game.

Thanks for quick answer, you're awesome.
