i come from the Devils Canyon gen, on that chip i could set it so that it runs at minimum power when idle/not in use. but when needed it would deliver full power. i knew this worked because wehn i would watch task manager the base clock speed would be at minimum then ramp up once i opened a program.

this new 9600k i just got has 3 modes on the asus tuf z390 pro. performance, auto or energy saver.

im running in auto hoping that it would drop down to the very base 800mhz or whatever the lowest speed is when idling, however it doesnt seem to do that.

i dont want to stick it in performance mode which i assume will be full speed all the time but i dont want to stick it in full energy saver mode and not have enough power when required.

can someone please shed some light on this.. cheers :)
