9600se or ti4200

The GF4ti. It's far more powerful even in modern games.

You may miss a little eye candy as has been mentioned, but if you want to have playable framerates, then really it's the way to go.

BTW, 4x vs 8x AGP won't matter one bit for these cards.

Yeah, I agree the Ti4200 is more powerful by far, and it's so hard to go with a 64-bit card even if it's a DX9. Plain 9600 is a different story though.

Only thing to remember about AGP 4X Ti4200's is the 128MB ones are only clocked 250/444 instead of 250/513 like the 4X 64MB or the 8X 64MB and 128MB cards. Still not bad though.

If he is in the US and can order online, he should go with <A HREF="http://www.z-buy.com/product.asp?item=VG-M8894070" target="_new">this 8X 128MB</A> clocked 250/513. I got mine today, and it's still being stress tested as I type. All is well after about 1 hour.

Just make sure you get the 8X AGP Ti4200, eventhough your board may only be 4X you'll gain the benefit of the higher memory clock speed.

Mine overclocks nicely to 300 core and 600 memory...
