Good day, all. I was wondering if anyone could help with my problem.

I recently purchased a samsung 970 evo plus but my problem is that it's not being detected by my motherboard (ultra m.2 slot). Here's my specs and what I've tried so far. The purpose of it is to make it my new game drive and it will be a part for a potential upgrade later down the line.

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
MB: Asrock B450M Steel Legend (bios version is 4.60)
Storage: x1 Samsung 850 EVO 2.5 (boot drive)
x1 WD Blue 1TB (current game drive)
RAM: T force delta 2x8 3200mhz

Things that I've tried so far:

  • I went ahead and tried the 970 evo plus on my friend's PC. his board is a ROG Strix B450F gaming ii and his CPU is a Ryzen 5 3600.
  • Borrowed his NVME drive and it worked like a charm. (though his is a gen 3x4. Mine, I'm not so sure if I purchased the updated 970 evo plus gen4 or the gen3 one.)
What I haven't tried though is to put his 3600 to my board and test my nvme if it works but as far as I know, if it is actually a gen 4 drive, usually it should be backwards compatible with pcie gen 3. I'm now at a loss as to why this drive does not work on my board. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Did it work?

Can you show screenshots from

I forgot to mention it but it did work and his board detected it in the bios and in Windows right away.

Here are my screenshots

EDIT: sorry. here's my disk management. here

Here's the link.

I haven't changed anything yet on the BIOS. Controller mode is set to AHCI from the start. Also I noticed that only the 4 sata ports are currently being shown on the storage options screen. No sign of the top nvme slot.
