970 or 990FX?

Hey guys,

I've got an 8320 and I plan on overclocking it to 4.2/4.5 and right now I'm having trouble figuring out motherboards. 970 chipset or 990? I wan't something reliable that will boot up when I OC a processor but it won't break the bank. I don't have any plans to do SLI right now, mainly because single GPUs always seem to do better than dual. The most I'd do is use another card as a dedicated physX card. I've got a black, gray, red scheme going so the blue or anything else I wouldn't like. You guys haven't failed me before!

For overclocking, the chipset doesn't really matter. 970 would do just fine.

Normally I'd recommend a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P, but with the rebate the 990FXA-UD3 is currently only a few bucks more. Then perhaps you might as well go for the higher-end board.

Chipset doesn't matter but power does. 970's don't generally have the power phases required.
6+2/8+2 on some 990FX boards while 970 usually only has 4+1 power phase. This is where you run into problems when OCing.
