Thanks in advance for all tips,
I built my rig but not sure about what gpu to buy. I have i5 4690k, 1866 ddr 3 16gb, Asrock z97 killer,Windows10 pro, my question which one will benefit me? I would like ultra at 60fps at least for games now and last at least 2yrs. I don't plan on overclocking since I'm to scared to try. Maybe when card I get needs to be overclocked for newer games later I'll look into it.
I'm gonna run everything at stock speed so 970 or 390???
Thanks

Solution
sapphire nitro or msi twin frozer... both are excellent cards. you cant go wrong with either.

you wont damage the cards. on the stock bios there are limitations you wont be able to overcome that will stop you from damaging the card from overclocking.

If you don't want to overclock, I'd definitely go with the 390. It may not have as much overclocking potential as the 970. But it's power is better. Overall, if you can go with any 390, i'd pick the sapphire nitro. If you're about aesthetics, i'd go with the STRIX 390. I have it and it comes with a cool backplate. Hope this helps! If you need any more questions feel free to ask!

Personally, I am going with the R9 390, as I am looking into purchasing one too. I have also seen DX12 benchmarks with the AMD R9 290x competing against the 980ti just because of AMD's architecture. Recommend the Sapphire or, what I am purchasing because of price, the Asus STRIX.

Which card msi or nitro? Both cards are clocked the same 1040 (well msi if I run gaming mode)
Which one has better oc room so when/if I decide to try to oc in the future (I'm still reading on overclocking) but like I said to scared to try, when I do I won't be touching voltage so what card would be best?
Thanks

I would go with Sapphire. The MSi R9 390 is almost 3 slots thick, so good luck placing PCI slots or other GPUs on your motheboard. The Tri-X on the Sapphire Nitro really makes a difference when you're OC'ing. If you want Nitro, get Sapphire.

Well I ordered the MSI R9 390 (hope I made the right choice, it's replacing HD7950) which I gave to my son for his build.
I won't be running more then one gpu. I'm not a big pc gamer (keyboard and mouse not for me). My son got me into pc stuff, all the games that i bought are 1-3 years old (steam sell) and I use Xbox a controller, should be here Monday. I'll install and report back.
Thanks for all the info

Well I got it but can't install it, I need to order a bigger psu. I guess B&H info was wrong about how much power I need. I have a Corsair CX500 watt not sure if it's enough to run the card.
I have a Asrock Z97 killer, 16gb 1866 ram, ssd for os, 1tb blue for storage, 8 fans, i5 4690k will my psu work? I've seen on forum's some say a 500 watt will work and others say no, so I'm lost 🙁

I ordered a new model from Newegg (Evga 650 watt gold rated Johnny guru recommended). I ran a psu test calculator (I put all info and said 494 watt psu is what I need which includes extra 50 watts). I hope that one works and get it before Xmas.

if johnny recommended it then its good. hopefully its an evga g2 or gs model and not a g1 model. the g2 is made by superflower and the gs is made by seasonic, both of the best power supply makers on the planet and are absolutely excellent with the g2 being slightly better.

Nice choice! The msi is a great card. I'm glad you didn't make the same mistake as me and buy the gigabyte 390 🙁 Although I can still play all my games amazing and maxed this card is an absolutely p.o.s
