Hi all. I have a gigabyte 970 and I game at 1080p. Wondering if a gigabyte 980ti for $350 is worth it for future proof. Thanks

Solution

I had a Evga GTX 970 FTW+ and was talked out of it by a relative. I replaced it with the GTX 980 I have now. While the benchmarks are better, there is no noticeable difference in real time gaming with my 60Hz refresh monitor. Both maxed out 60 fps at max settings on the games I play.

On the other hand, If you think you may buy a 120/144 Hz monitor in the near future, you may find the 980 Ti better if your eyes can distinguish faster than 60 fps. Mine can't.

I have a 980 and I played on 1080p, it played everything maxed out (Witcher 3/GTA V/BF4, etc.). I upgraded to 1440p recently, I can still play everything at max settings though takes some adjusting. I plan to upgrade to the 1080 ti when it comes out, so your 980 ti for $350 is a great price and future proof. If you wanted to wait a couple of months to get the 1080 ti (or a couple of weeks for the 1080) and spend ~$200 more then go for it, but the 980 ti will hold you over for at least 2 years at 1080p.
