Question Why is the internet speed for just my pc so slow?

My pc's internet speeds have been slowly degrading over the past week. At first it was just the up down speeds over wifi. Then I plugged it into my ethernet, and my ping was amazing, but my up down speeds seemed to be just 4Mbps. I recently got a new higher wattage psu and was wondering if that might be an issue? But the up down speeds were getting worse even before then. I have an old 2017 Alienware aurora r7 that I have been upgrading consistently, but the motherboard has remained the same. I recently reinstalled windows, have checked that it is using 5ghz connection, and is not being limited in the settings.

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Include PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used)?

Disk drive(s): make, model, capacity, how full?

List of all connected peripherals.

Wired or wireless network?

Run "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the Command Prompt. Post the full results.

You should be able to copy and paste the results with no need to retype it all.

things to consider
what are you running your internet connection on

vdsl copper cable to copper cable ( phone line)

fibre which is cabinet fibre to copper cable phone line


from my experience with adsl lines the filter can go bad which is this little box thing that plugs into your phone line

wifi is only as good as your router and wireless chip if your router overheats or wireless chip this can also cause degraded performance.

How do you test the speed? Game download speed does not count.
