9800 GTX+ obsolete?

Solution
yes obsolete. Sli would be a waste of money. you can get MUUUUUCH better cards so cheap nowadays like a rx460/470/480 gtx 1060/960/970 etc. Even a older 700 series card can be had extremely cheap and would be a better option.

Yeah it's pretty old. Even in SLI wouldn't recommend that, if you're really in a right budget something like a 370 or gtx 950 would be so much better.
Also it depends on what games you play but even then.

I was still using one until recently (last year). It is a Gigabyte 1GB model, and it refuses to die. The last game I played with it was Far Cry 3, and I thought it provided an enjoyable experience at 1680x1050. Also played Tribes: Ascend with it for a while, no problems at all. It continues to serve in an older system so my nephew and I can play games like War Thunder, CS, and Spring Engine games. The 9800GTX+ still has some use, but I would not consider it for a main build and you will not be able to play new AAA games with it. No need to throw it away though. As the others said, something new would be better, you can get a 750Ti for $80 or a 950 for around $100 if you wait for a sale. When they become widely available I think a 460 should be a great budget card as well.

That is what I was using it for, an old rig with old games. I got the card for $35

You sometimes can find them for under $20, so if you can find one and just want to experiment with older games with that card in sli I don't think it's to bad of an idea. But if you want a really good budget used video card you can normally find a gtx 670 on ebay for under $80
