So when I built my budget son's gaming rig in 2020 I had no idea that AM4 tech would be EOL now. I guess just like phones.
CPU:Ryzen 7 5700x
CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D12L low profile (8 case fans blowing front to back and out)
Motherboard: MSI B450 Pro M2
Ram: Corsair 3200MHz 32GB (16x2)
SSD/HDD: 932 GB SSD CT1000MX SSD1, 3.64TB HDD ST4000D, 1.82TB HDD WDC WD20EZRZ
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (8 GB)
PSU: Corsair 550W(bought in 2020 needs upgrade for sure 650 at least)
Chassis: Aero Cool mini tower
OS: Win 10 22H2
Monitor: HP Omen
Most playing time is on call of duty. Some elder scroll, some Assetto car sim, But we have to run COD at low settings to get 166 FPS which isn't that great in itself. 105 FPS on basic settings and 77 in ultra.
I'm not jumping on AM5 as I really don't have an issue but rather than buy a $1000 4070 GPU I found a 5700x3d for 260$ , granted they shou5be around 180$ now.
But for comparison my chip
5700x 8core 16thread 4.6GHz max boost, 3.4 base vs 5700x3d 8core 16 thread 4.1 Max boost 3.0 base freq. I do have a lowly b450 msi pro m2 board. But does the L3 cache make up for the frequency loss?
Is it worth it on this board? I mean im just trying to gain 3 more years until am6
