So i have the gigabyte 980ti xtreme gaming waterforce . I wanted to know if it is worth it to upgrade to a 1080 or will it be unnoticeable? The cpu is 6800k on x99 strix . I do gaming , video editing and streaming :) thank you in advance

now you got to take consideration of any CPU and GPU overclocking involved in all the scores , but is that gain you see between the 980ti and 1080 worth the investment ?? not really to me

[ Number of GPUs = 1 ] single card scores

then under firestrike ultra [4k] even less ...

I upgraded from an EVGA SC 980ti to an EVGA GTX 1080 FTW...and there was a decent increase in performance. I'd encourage you to spend the extra for a 1080ti, which will perform like 980tis in SLI (but without the variance of comparability and support issues)

You don't say what your monitor is. If you are only running a 1080p montor at 60Hz or even a 1440p at 60Hz a 1080Ti is way overkill. Even a 1070 will do the job for those monitor keeping games at 60fps (minimum fps is what's critical here and then Vsync lock at 60fps for smoothness). However at 4K (60Hz) or if you run a Gsync 1440p, then a 1080Ti would make more sense. Otherwise anything over 60fps average on a 60Hz monitor is a waste of money.

Here are two DX12 and one DX11 game benchmark links at 1440p with various GPUs to give you an idea of what each card will do:

And regarding SLI, if you have a power supply up for it, then it's an option as well. However, as a long time SLI builder, I would not recommend it and instead recommend going single powerful GPU solution. I say this based upon experiencing more and more games not scaling well with SLI or even some games not supporting SLI at all at release and having to wait for a patch. Sometimes, that patch never comes (Arkham Knight) and other times it comes but offers very poor scaling on the second GPU (Just Cause 3).

Sell your 980Ti while you can still get some decent money out of it and put that towards a 1080. The longer you hold on to it, the less it is worth. A year from now you'll wish you had upgraded and dumped your 980Ti while still worth something. Trust me! They are selling well on eBay used for $350+ (US anyway). A lot of people out there take advantage of upgraders selling their previous high end GPUs. If I were you, I'd sell the GPU ASAP.

I'd recommend a factory overclocked 1080 with dual cooling fans from EVGA, MSI, or ASUS. Stay away from the reference "blower" type GPUs unless your case has very poor internal airflow and cooling.

in timespy [dx12] the 1080 helps a bit better

depends ? is the 600 +/- $ reinvestment worth it overall or just pound out that 980 ti some more ?
