Hi people,
I'm looking to build a new comp(my first build) and honestly, i'm confused.
I'm planning to watch movies on it, play BF3 and other FPS's and RTS's.

Thanks in advance 😀 😀

Solution
Overall build looks good.

Hyper 212+ is 16cm tall, case is 21cm wide, should be plenty of room there :)

This SeaSonic PSU will save you some money and will work perfectly: http://www.theitwares.com/seasonic-s12ii-bronze-520w-atx12v-v291-plus-bronze-certified-active-power-supply-p-2284.html keep in mind 750w PSU is recommended for SLI though so it might be best to buy a better PSU in your initial build, rather than having to swap it later on http://www.theitwares.com/seasonic-x760-ss760km-760w-atx12v-v23eps-v291-80plus-gold-certified-active-power-supply-p-2205.html

One thing I would say is don't pay the extra for the DELUXE motherboard, it just isn't worth it. This GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD4-B3 is probably your best option...

Gee. I guess you missed the MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III PE/OC Radeon HD 6950 2GB which will unlock to an HD6970 2GB, and the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX which, regretfully, is now out-of-stock.

But, that's okay, though the Crosshair IV is an outstanding motherboard, the MSI 890FXA-GD70 AM3 890FX is also a tremendous motherboard, an outstanding value, and also supports the new AM3+ Bulldozer processors...

and when combined with the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz reduces the total price to ...

Rs.32,500

Sorry, I mixed Chennai up with Kolkata.

How are you supposed to 'unlock' a GPU?
I'll go for the one you said if its better.

And about the motherboard, i'm okay with Intel. I'm not going to be buying the parts 'till Oct 4th, so I hope the BullDozer CPU's come out by then.

MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition Unlocking

You should be fine pushing a single video card with the PhII 955BE -- even better with a nice OC on both the CPU and GPU. The 'early-adopter' price premium on Bulldozer will likely be quite high, and in the 1H-2012 the BD Vishera with 'Piledriver' cores should hit the market, giving you some interesting upgrade options.

An AM3+ motherboard if they are available to you would offer better 'electricals' and Turbo, but that MSI motherboard performs in substantially the same manner as the Asus CrossHair with a few less 'bells and whistles'.

This will give you an idea of the power needs of the HD6950 when modded and 'juiced' ...

You will not likely meet the Furmark power demands, but if you are considering a potential CrossFire in the future, a 750w PSU would be a good move.

I STILL don't get why someone building a new build would get a phenom. Or anything AMD. At least not with a budget of Rs.55K. Agreed, the price is less with AMD, but then it's not like the phenom matches the Core i5's performance or anything. K-series chips can be overclocked too, to 4.5 GHz if you can manage it.

Even if you go for a Radeon, i would still stay stick with an Intel CPU for the moment. Plus Ivy bridge will be an "upgrade option" too. Bulldozer may stand up to sandy bridge, hard to say really. I don't see why you'd but 2 cpus in the span of a few months when you could buy one that may be better than both for the same price (or maybe less).

Besides, Bulldozer is unlikely in 3 days. 😀

p.s. you unlock a GPU by updating the bios. Basically some 2GB 6950s are actually handicapped 6970s being sold as a lower model (than the 6970) and at a lower price (but higher than the 1GB 6950). It was found that flashing the 6970s bios on to some 2GB 6950s unlocked a full 6970 (and thus more performance). Doesn't work always and you may end up with a wasted card.

I'd love to see a link backing up that statement. As noted above it has a success rate above 97%.

And on the very, very, very small chance it does not work, you simply revert to the original BIOS.

wasn't exactly an illogical scare statement. was just a cautionary statement. i remembered reading about bricked cards and reverting the BIOS (if the card has a backup bios). Just avoided mentioning that for the sake of simplicity. In retrospect, maybe i should have.

i didn't know about the 97% number though, so if it's true, what the hell. I'm still using a 9600GT, so never read much more about it.

btw, if you say 97% success rate, which => 3% fail rate, which is exactly what i wanted to say, that it may fail.

Cheers.
