Hello forum people,
I have an interesting mystery revolving around the combination of my CPU and the MMORPG called Flyff. Problem is as follows: I boot up the game launcher and wait for it to be ready (no anomalies), then I press play. The minute the game starts to load into the login screen my CPU temperature sensors shoot up to 100 degrees celsius flat. I played Flyff last weekend (sat+sun) no problems. I come home from work on monday, this happens. I have constated myself that this is a visual/software bug as this game is the ONLY game that lets my CPU act this way. It cant be faulty hardware, as you can read the things below here which I've tried.
Things I have tried:
- Re-booting my pc twice. One with short off time, one with long off time
- Checked if my CPU cooler is faulty, its still very sturdy in place on my MoBo.
- Felt air coming out of cooling radiator, when playing demanding games and with Flyff. Demanding games temps show as 50-65 degrees, air feels warm. Launched Flyff, air is ice cold, temps show 100C.
- Re-install game.
- Re-install game on another drive.
- Tested GTA 5 on maxed settings, CPU load and temp normal. (55C, 22% Load)
- Tested Battlefield 5, CPU load and Temp normal(65C, 40% load(I had multiple tabs open on chrome so might be inaccurate))
- Checked Temps on Speccy, Corsair LINK, Corsair iCUE, Show same values across different games and also the visual bug of 100 degrees celsius occurs.
- Deleted all CPU(cooler)-controlling software and re-installed them one by one, each time checking if temps under load were normal, and if temps whilst running Flyff returned to normal, nothing changed.
- Checked what sensor iCUE was reading( CPU Package), this should be the right one.
Some visual help:
Launcher opened:
Game launched and quit:
Game running, multiple programs temp check:
Game closed, Multiple programs Temp drop check:
For some reason Intel XTU reads somewhat possible correct values although I would consider these to still be relatively high for such an old game running on a 9900K.
PC specs:
CPU: i9 9900K (not overclocked)
Cooler: Corsair Hydro 115i
Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Pro Z390
RAM: DDR4 3000Mhz (XMP Enabled) Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro (2x8GB)
OS: Windows 10 Home
The ONLY thing that I have seen change between sunday and monday is a pop-up that said "iCue Update Available". I cant say for sure if this update was auto-installed and caused this problem.
The next thing I am going to do is find an older version of iCUE to see if anything changes and I will come back to my topic.
I am in need of help on this one for now.
