hi,

i have an 4 year old acer aspire 5920g laptop with vista installed from the manufacturer. one night it went down when watching a video, then it started to give blue screen. i googled it and realized maybe it's because of the battery and when i took the battery out it started working normally. then i backed up the most of the data in c:/ and leave some of the data in d:/ thinking nothing will happen:) i tried to format the computer without the battery and in the middle of the process electricity went off. then when i try to open, it says a disk read error occured press ctrl+alt+del to restart. i tried to start with recovery disks from 3 years ago and there is type mismatch error if i remember correctly. i tried to install xp, it says there is no disk. i called acer help, on the phone they suggested me to install vista from cd. i tried that and nothing happened or seen on the screen. any help?

The main problem with laptops is that they can't be updated to newer version drivers in most instances like version 4 to version 5 for the audio (example only)

Considering that you've tried to install various versions of OSes, you might have to start all over again and delete all and any partitions. You should always do a backup to an external drive and not to a partition on the same disk, that makes no real sense if the hdd fails so does the backup partition.

After removing all of the partitions, even those with no drive letter, shut down the laptop, wait about 5 seconds before powering on and then continue to format and install procedure. You should have the battery in place and the power cable connected and turned on.

This laptop only supports - Windows Vista™ Ultimate, Windows Vista™ Home Premium, Windows Vista™ Home Basic

Using any other Os like XP or Windows 7 would result in a lack of driver support if any would be available.

hi,

thanks for the answer. I will delete all partitions but i can't access windows to do it and tutorials on the internet show generally just through windows. any hint on that?

You need your Vista OS disk and the CD serial key, boot from the disk (change option in bios to cd/dvd as primary boot option).
If you don't have the CD key then you might not be able to install the OS.
You delete the partitions, all and any, from the install options.

Edit -
you will lose all your data and back files.
