A Fan-tastic problem?

Hi!

I have a Fractal desing node 304 case.
Today I decided to clean the front anti-dust mesh and I noticed that the two front 92mm fans are not spinning. If I spin them by hands or swich the fan speed to a higher level they start to spin and won't stop on lower rpms.

When I connect the back 140mm fan to the same slot it works fine, so I dont think that the problem is the built in fan speed switch.

Any ideas?
Many thanks for the help!

When turning are those fan fins feel not smooth?(gluey) Then it's time to refill the oil of them.

If not you should know that every fan doesn't have the same minimum voltage setting. So some fans might require something strong to get the start up.

I agree; this is most likely the problem. PWM fans always run at 12V, so you don't have to worry about this, but non-PWM fans have a minimum RPM, so if you set the voltage too low, the fan will not spin at all.

They turn smooth, It's not the oil.
But if the voltage is the problem, then why are they keep spinning after startig them by hand or just the startup needs more power?

Exactly. They may need a certain voltage in order to get going, and after they are moving, you can slow them down a little.

I must say, why do you want to run them so slowly? I mean, you didn't even notice that they weren't spinning until now. 😉

Well it explains why were my gpu temps so crazy. :)

And I like as much airflow as possible without noise increase.
So next time I'll just turn them up a little to start then switch back to low.

BTW Thank you for your help!
