I need to access some archive material from americanarchive.org for a project I'm working on, but the footage can only be streamed from the US and I'm not from the US 🙁

I've tried a couple of proxies but it got me nowhere. Does anyone know of some free, US proxy (preferably web-based) that might allow me to access the footage?

Not sure if proxy actually exist much any more. The problem is most web sessions are encrypted end to end with https. This means it is impossible for a device to be placed in the middle of the HTTP session. Proxy used to work because the request to the end machine was open and you would ask the proxy and it would in turn ask the server, Now everything is encrypted partially to prevent someone from sitting in the middle and running a proxy you do not know about or capturing your data.

What you want is a vpn as mentioned by several posters above. The complete HTTPS session is then encapsulated inside another session with only the IP address changing.

You are going to have issues finding a free vpn service. Someone has to pay for bandwidth and the servers so they try to recover their costs another way. Some try to force ads into the stream but that messes up web browsers. The really dishonest ones have gotten caught running bit coin miners on peoples machine. If you had something very low volume you might get one of the free trials to work but since you want to stream video you likely are going to have to pay for the service.

Even the very best services are not that expensive. Even paying monthly most are $10-$15 and you can get discounts for longer commitments.
