Hi there, i realy need some help on my dilemma, which i will trie to explai the best as i can.. i have this computer an asus M2N32-sli, with an AMD Athlon 64 6000+, i know its a very old computer, but for far works for me, i still abble to play the games that i like in low or medium settings, however... 2 weeks ago, for low performance, and them with a cut of the eletric power (for line maintenance) with no previous warning, well... my OS is pretty mess, and worst now its slow, soo slow that now some games freezes even on lower settings.
soo here is my problem, but the solucion is simple just reinstall a new clean OS or in this case... install again windows 7 and all the stuff that i have, or i could to start and slowly build a new PC, and by slowly... i been update in 3 steps: 1st step - CPU, Moetherboard, and memory), everything looks good especially when i been dreaming with a new pc for some years now, and to me even better on next friday i will be in vacation from job, but i just remenber of one problem, my PSU.
The PSU i have right now is an coolermaster real power 550w, that i bought almost 9 years ago, and here is my big "dilemma"... for what i read in foruns or discussions, ones says that and bad PSC or and non good quality PSU can burn your PC, if you use for years, others... comments that a good PSU is so good that even haves somekind of killer switch, basically to protect the components of any discharge, some said "the best is to change in 5 years of use, others said " just relax, and enjoy your PSU has long he lives"... my dilemma is not if i should keep this PSU or not, that is out of question, but can i trust this PSU for just more 2 months? and that is my dilemma i only have this 2 options;
Option A - i buy this 3 parts( CPU, Moetherboard, and memory) and them... in a maximum of 2 months, i change my PSU for a new one... or option B- i just reintall the OS in my old PC and keep saving and dreaming for a new PC, and try to update in 8 or 10 months from now. what do you recommend?

the newer haswell and skylake cpu that are out now will need a new power supply. the newer chips run at so low a wattage in there power saving mode that older power supply will just shut down. that why vendors now have to list the supply's are haswells tested and supported. i would wait the 8 months and build a whole new pc. in that time nvidia and amd are droppig faster and lower power gpus. (pascal and plorais gpus. ). also the stock level for ddr4 and skylake cpu will be better and there be more sales on them. on parts if your in the us look at local micro center for combo deals. as it looks your on a low end build. look at the h170/h110 mb and a locked intel cpu to save some money. then pick up a ssd. ssd do help on boot and program times. on your old pc parts like hard drive and older gpu can be reused to save some money.

Hi "Smorizio" and frist of all, thank you for helping me here, and my apologies for the delay, so... i have take a closer look on the "haswell and skylake" cpu's, and they are awesome, but... at list for now... they are little expensive for me, my idea to update it was going to an intel i3 (socket 1150), or an amd fm2+, or am3+ (i don't know which of these 2 amd's sockets are the best choise), but in the amd zone... they have the same issue about the PSU? and i has also doing some research here, but i didn't find there i can look which PSU is compatibly for the CPU, but for example... if i go to this socket fm2+; moetherboard asus A88X-gamer, with an AMD Athlon x4 860k, with 8 GB of memory, what PSU do you recomend to buy?
