A good wifi extender?

I just moved into a new house, and my old modem always worked great, but this new house has a 2nd floor, and my current router/modem is having trouble sending a Wifi signal up there for me to use Wifi on my phone. I connected comcast about getting a new, more powerful modem with an increased range if they have that, and they told me a wifi extender would fix my problem. Plus sent me a new modem, so my question is, does anyone have a wifi extender? And does it help with something like this?

Get an unifi ac lite or better. Extender might be easier to install, but performance sucks

A WIFI repeater is not a good thing. A set of powerline network adapters which have WIFI, that is OK. Something like these -- https://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/powerline/PLW1000.aspx

You can check the Securifi Almond Range Extender that is compatible with all popular routers: Linksys, Belkin, and Netgear. The setup is very easy but the price is a bit high as compared to other extenders. Some good reviews are here - http://www.topreviewhut.com/best-wifi-extender/
