A hard drive partition not showing up on windows 7

I was planning to switch from 8 to 7 but i encountered a problem which is a partition is not showing up after windows 7 loads up but it shows during the boot process.
Note ;-In windows 8's drive management it is showing up as healthy and primary partion

Oh I found answer... Just forget what I posted earlier here is simple solution...
The recovery partition is showing up becuase its been assigned a DRIVE LETTER.

FROM STARTUP ICON MENU - right click COMPUTER - select MANAGE

From COMPUTER MANAGEMENT window - select DISK MANGEMENT

right click on the DRIVE in question - select CHANGE DRIVE LETTERS AND PATHS - select ADD.

There just assign the drive letter and the DRIVE will appear in Windows Explorer or to the programs.


I did this for a my EXT4 / LINUX drives to hide them in Explorer. Now windows no longer trys to FORMAT them.

Nope its showing on disk management but when i boot my windows 8 back to 7, that particular drive vanishes while it will be still there when i have to select the drive for my os. How to paste pictures here so that i can show you all whats the drive in disk management?

Oh I am also facing same problem. I guess.. its because of the hidden system files/folders on that partition. which makes it invisible in myComputer. The solution I am thinking on ... is to insert an UBUNTU OS cd and load it LIVE and then find and delete system folders from previous OS on the drive which is not showing up... (its Risky business!! but not much risky) again you will need to re-install windows 8 or 7 which ever you are switching to.

Patrick - I am having exactly the problem you show above...
I am working on a friends laptop (Toshiba Satellite S855-S5252) running Win 7 that had some disk errors and viruses. I am hoping to restore using the Recovery Partition which has a drive letter assigned and is labeled HDDRECOVERY, but also have a smaller partition (1.46 GB) that is marked as a recovery partition but has no drive letter (and will not allow one to be assigned). It does not appear in Windows Explorer / My computer but it is shown in Computer Management. It is a striped disk.
What are my options?

Hi Patrick...... I am not a hardcore Geek but have tried my hand on hardware and software troubleshooting... counting on my experience Here is what you can do..
STEP 1) * if you don't have a crucial data to recover...After booting through OS boot CD... when you are show the partitions on screen...then delete the Recovery Partition and any unallocated space on HDD... after that you will see only "good" partitions.
STEP 2) choose a partition with large free space on it for installing OS. STEP 3) choose custom installation option.. now you are good to go... Good Luck !!!
P.S. Download UBUNTU OS its Free and OpenSource :)

patrick47018 - I DO need to recover the data, that's the problem. I'm trying to setup the system to the original factory setup...

Ok then do not format the partition and choose Custom installation option. All your data will be stored in OS.old (e.g. on Microsoft Windows it will be windows.old ) folder which you can recover afterwards..

Open disk management and check if the partition is listed there.
If yes, then you'll need to delete that partition so that it becomes 'unallocated space.
Then you can create a new partition from that unallocated space by right-clicking on it and selecting 'create a new partition'.
Partition wizard will guide you through the process

I have a similar issue and i was hoping to see that people will ask me first if the drive/volume has data or not. I am flabergasted on how many people overlooked this critical aspect. most of the answers assumes the drive has no valuable data and advice ppl on paths that will delete data. this is risky as people can loose precious moments( pic and video) apart from any critical documents that might be on the drive. not everyone is techie, please ask about data before suggesting to format.

I am not being critical, appreciate the intent to help, but there is also the saying "the path to hell is paved with good intentions"

When I try to change the letter of a partition then I have an error that the view is not actual and I need to restart. After restarting it is the same error. ANy ideas?

I had the same sort of issue, it was showing in explorer but windows could not access that location, it was a old computer I had not plugged in for some time, after trouble shooting and using restore programs I found it was just that the everyone permission had changed to Unknown, so once I added it back it's come back, files and all.

Sir, mine i can't see partition in disk management..its only shows 75gb instead of 500GB..even though i already formated and deleted the partition it only shows 75gb in disk management..i can't even see unallocation or what else but it only shows 7gb. 🙁 please i need your help.!
