Hi all. RAM for my server, and in general, always confuses me and I want to use it now for my Transcoding because it seems to be ideal for Transcoding since that is all Temporary (RAM Specialty) & my SDD died because of Transcoding my Movies, etc. I found a way to do it on my RAM BUT, I only have 8GB of ECC RAM. Would 4GB work well enough for multiple streams Transcoded because I don't believe so but I am no expert. I am also very poor these days and ECC is expensive so upgrading seems not an option currently but when I can.... what should I buy? Can anyone choose RAM compatible with my Supermicro X9SCM-F MOBO? The specs for the mobo RAM are in bold below. Do those specs mean that I can't use cheaper non-ECC RAM If I chose to? Please recommend the Cheapest ECC & If possible for my mobo, the non-ECC TYPE as well because the DIMMS, UDIMMS & SDRAM & all... CONFUSES the heck outta me. I have a Xeon CPU if that matters & if you need the CPU's exact model, I will get it for any of you. Thanks for any and all help

Four (4) SDRAM DIMM slots support up to 32 GB of
DDR3 Unbuffered, ECC 1600/1333/1066 MHz memory.
Note: For memory speed 1600 MHz support, an E3-
1200 v2 CPU is required.
Supports dual-channel memory bus
DIMM sizes
UDIMM 1 GB, 2 GB, 4GB and 8GB

You could go with any normal ram (not server ram that is RDIMM), and Unbuffered ECC Ram (example PC12800E, the E on Udimm is unbuffered ram and it could be used on a normal board too).
