A Lot of Errors

For Christmas I got an 8gb stick of RAM. Ever since I installed it my Chrome tabs have been crashing, and some of my games have missing files errors.

Further inspection says that the game bugs are caused by bad ram.

I do have the occasional blue screen with the error of PFN_LIST_CORRUPT which I hear is also bad ram.

I also hear of it being because of Avira conflicting with Windows Defender being enabled, but Windows Defender is disabled.

It can't be my HDD because it has been working fine for a year now.

So I tested my ram with memtest86 and it passed, I have no idea of what it could be and by now it is getting very aggrivating. Any help is greatly appreciated!

if you install new RAM be sure to update you BIOS or reset the BIOS back to defaults before you retest the system.
The BIOS updates will set the default memory timings (even the hidden timings not exposed in your BIOS set program)

There are also errors that memtest86 will not detect (broken connections of solder joints that reconnect with thermal expansion, takes about 8 seconds of power to get the memory chip to heat up and expand and remake the bad connection)

the PFN_LIST_CORRUPT can also be cause by a device driver overwriting the bounds of its allocated memory, when it does this it will overwrite memory belonging to another driver, then that driver might crash. Each time windows boots, windows attempts to load the drivers...
Hi there oOLathOo,

As I did some research, it appears that most frequent causes of this error message are either driver problem or some corruption problem caused by a virus.
So, my suggestion would be to start with updating all your drivers. Then next thing you could do is to run a full virus scan.
If the problem persists, you may want to put your old RAM back in and see whether you will get blue screen again.
I doubt that this is caused by the HDD. Though, just to be sure of it, you can run a brand specific testing tool on it. The results will show you the overall health status of the drive.

Hope this will help,

the PFN_LIST_CORRUPT can also be cause by a device driver overwriting the bounds of its allocated memory, when it does this it will overwrite memory belonging to another driver, then that driver might crash. Each time windows boots, windows attempts to load the drivers in different orders. This can result in a different bugcheck on each boot of the system.

there are common 3rd party drivers that corrupt memory and just need to be updated. (update the BIOS, and any drivers from your motherboard vendor)
you might even want to remove some drivers that you don't use. for example older USB chargers driver have various problems that corrupt memory.
if you don't charge a APPLE device on your PC don't install these APPLEUSB chargers.

if you can not find the actual cause of the problem you will want to run verifier.exe and set up flags to look for memory corruption
but do this after you have done the other things because it will only find corruption in drivers. Not corruption by bad hardware settings.
