"Of course, if Mozilla is being denied access to iOS today, what would motivate Apple to allow access in the future? Mozilla says it is the openness of the idea and the technology that will make people want to use such a platform. The idea here is basically to attract people to a technology that will give them more power and ultimately more control over their information and technology they use the Internet."

Except, Apple wants exactly the opposite. This motivates Apple to NOT allow access ...blah, blah, blah. Gruener, you give Apple credit that it doesn't have. At least Google, while not actively promoting alternatives to it's apps, does not actively block these alternatives.
Quit putting Apple and Google in the same boat in this (and others) respect, like you feel compelled to do whenever you have something negative to say about Apple. They are NOT similar.

The Platforms are only relevant if they provide a better alternative that what is actually present today and i am not only talking about online alternatives but also about OS alternatives e.g. Linux for MS or Apple.

If we look at the history how services generate revenue it is always the same :-
Make more people aware of new technology, make them habitual to it, provide it for free on available resources than cut the resources and generate revenue from all different services which you were providing before for free..... People need to chose wisely as more options means more confusion. People should find ways to use technology more effectively and efficiently (Facebook, twitter and orkut are examples for bad use of technology). I mean even i have lost lots of productive time by using these sites.

Last but not least a browser is what i require to run all the internet services, so i need a secure and functional browser and i need a safe and effective OS environment to do my job when internet is not available. I am not from a place where Wi-Fi is a norm :)
