Hey guys I'm looking for a decent printer to last me a good number of years. It's for home use mainly for the odd document printing (nothing graphical). I think I would prefer a laser jet printer and one that is fairly compact (medium size is fine):

1. What is your printer budget? What is your country of origin?
Around £50-£200
2. Preferred Brand(s)
n/a
3. Double-sided printing?
Yes.
4. How many pages do you print per day?
0-10
5. Do you want your printer to perform other functions (scanning / copying / fax)?
Scanner could be useful, but not essential. Compactness is more important but would like to see both options.
6. Preferred website for printer (eg Newegg / Tiger Direct, etc)?
Needs to be purchasable in UK
7. Do you want your printer to have WiFi capability?
Yes, must be WiFi connectable.
8. Do you want your printer to have full color or black and white?
Colour, must have low running costs
9. How much do you currently spend on ink/toner?
n/a but I want low running cost (and efficient so I don't have to change cartridges every week :).

Thank in advance for your recommendations! There are so many printers I literally don't know where to start!

Personally I'd have a look for a cheap laser at somewhere like printerland.co.uk. often with cashback, the cartridge will typically do 1000 ish pages, so in two years buy another one. It's wrong I know, but whilst that is selling model there's not a lot to be done. Got my son a double sided smallish samsung for I think £80.

printerland look great. I've contacted them for a recommendation let's see what they come back with :). Thanks for your help!

I have 2.
A cheap B/W Brother laser, cost $39, which has so far not run out of toner (And it's cheap to replace) and a HP6700 multifunction ink jet.
The HP turns itself on, primes, checks the ink and turns itself off every day, Result: the expensive ink cartridges some times only last a dozen pages.
Guess which one I use (Hint: the HP is turned off when not needed)

I'm open to suggestions so fire away :)

look at a company called inkexpress and their refillable cartridges, it'll stop you having the same problem as pastit, I have a brother 8570, big A3 thing, it got used so infrequently that ink just seemed to evaporate out of it. Swapped to refillables and for £30 i've got around 5 fills of each cartridge, they are transparent so I can top up if I'm doing something big. So much happier using it. But it's all in the choice to ensure you get one that they make a cartridge for. But a throwaway laser is your best bet, won't mind being sat idle for 12 months if you don;t need to print.
