A question about Linux.

I'm working on building a gaming PC, but I really don't want to fork out around $100 dollars for a legit copy of Windows. I'm wondering if any of you have tried a version of Linux running PlayOnLinux http://www.playonlinux.com/en/ ? Does it work, and how well does it work?

Valve just put out Steam for Linux. Not many titles yet but it was just put in Open Beta on December 19th. Team Fortress 2, Serious Sam 3, Killing Floor, and Uplink are some of the game available now. Left 4 Dead 2 should be out soon.

Personal recommendations for Linux: I do not like Unity and instead suggest LXDE or Cinnamon for user interface.
