Question A ram stick damaged?

So after installing the ram sticks I got today into one of my laptops, I find whatever that area of the ram stick looks chipped. Either I did the damage or it was already damaged. The laptop still boots up and everything seems in order. Though... is this a cause for concern the seeming damage in the picture? Should I take prudent measures and send it back?

Usually a damage like that would cause your laptop to have a black screen or a no-POST issue. I would try and inspect the laptop and your bench/worktop to see if you can locate the missing SMD ceramic capacitor and resolder it onto the stick of ram.

However, can you verify if the damage is user induced or did it come this way? If the latter, you're entitled for an RMA/refund/return to seller. If it's the former, you've voided your warranty due to user neglect/induced damage.

I haven't found that piece its small enough to be elusive. Also, I have no soldering kits on me, so repairing it myself seems out of the question? There may be the possibility it came like that, so makes locating the piece potentially null.

And as far the damage causing a black screen or no-POST. I haven't had any of that, it seems to work normal. However, since you gave me this information, I feel the ram continuing to show no signs of problems to be untrustworthy. A prudent measure would be to send it back, what say you?

Out of honesty, if I damaged the stick of ram then I wouldn't return it. Take that on the chin and not let the stick of ram circulate within society. If the stick of ram did come that way to me, I'd instantly contact my seller and inform them of the issue to initiate a return/refund/replacement.

I think thats what I shall do, I will initiate a return. But will also run memtest in the meantime. My problem is, everything seems to work in order. I have had no major oddities (other than the norm that happens on the laptop) or blue screens. But with this information coming my way, I feel uneasy about it. The luck may not be future proof.

Had hope not to send it back, because that may be some hassle. Plus, I got so tired of the previous ram stick in the laptop, I tossed it and have no others handy. So, my laptop would be dormant until another ram kit can be procured. So moar waiting!

After having ran memtest for awhile. There is no errors whatsoever. And on threat of repeating myself, no issues with any no-POST or blue screens. It looks in the clear. Not expecting a long life of the stick, but its useable.

Returns are still initiated. I thank you for your time in telling me, what I should do.
