The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001e (0xc0000005, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\MEMORY.DMP.
Kmode exception not handled.

I dont get this when im not using the computer, its on but im not using it. But as soon as i try to watch a video or something the machine just hangs!! with a very annoying bluescreen! Ive tried how long i can have it running while try getting the error, and I can max have it running for 10 minutes. Does anyone know whats wrong?! I use a VIA CUV4X motherboard and a PIII-825mhz (overclocked from 750mhz) its an 1.65v CPU. Im also using a SBAWE64 gold ISA, Nvidia tnt 2 ultra. Two network adapters, while starting the computer I always get an error, Intel network adapter now fixing bootstrap, i have no idea what that means.. the other card, 3com also 10/100 works fine. And im running the latest VIA patches and motherboard updates, please help!!

when did you overclock it? have you tried stability tests? if you recently overclocked it, you might want to check everything out (temp, stability, etc.)

It just might be that your system is unstable at that speed. Try to look into it.

"My computer sucks."
No, really, it does.

Well I tried CPUStabTest.exe and ran it for 1 minute, and saved it to a certificate :

Benchmarking stability tests are a bit 'dubious' imho.

I think you have already proved your system is not 'rock solid'.

The tests rarely use the drivers and components you will in real life.

Also, you run the system for some time, then try to run and it crashed. Do you run this test after a day of running? Maybe you have a heat buildup issue?

Its impossile, cause its only 18 celcius in here, and the computer box is open. I think this is a bug with my hardware, maybe I should try other hardware, another soundcard and another network card.

Why is it impossible? You can put a 60W lightbulb in a freezer and it will still be hot (unless you turn it off! ;o) )

Your room being cool will certainly help, but if your HSF or thermal connection are poor then your cpu will still overheat. Are you using the stock intel fan? did you remove the little heat pad and use thermal grease? Without a good thermal contact to a reasonable HSF your system will be less stable. Also I think you'll find bumping up to 1.75 or 1.8V core will help stability - once you are sure your cooling is working fine.

Okej here is some news,
I can have my computer running for days if i dont touch it, but when i run multiple multimedia applications it fails and BSOD (bluescreen on death). One good example is to run winamp and windows mediaplayer with a movie or a musicvideo. It fails after MAX 2 minute. I dont know why, but I feel this may be a power suply problem, any ideas???
I use a 250w power suply.

Okay - but what is your system doing for the 2 days? What if you run seti for a day or 2? If your CPU is not at load it can be 10 degrees C cooler (or more).

So - if you clock your system back to default - does it do the same? The chances are that you either have a heat issue or a timing issue and one or more of your components will not work properly. The 750 is a 100FSB chip right? What memory and memory timings are you using?

Yeah its the same on 750mhz
yepp, the cpu bus is 100
and the memory bus 133
and they are set to that.

Im now trying to do the same without the soundcard, only now i play multiple videos without sound, actually 4 videos! at the same time, and as far as it goes it havnt crashed yet! ive now tried it 5 times, ITS STABLE! so..it must be the ISA soundcard?

Yeah - it's possible your soundcard (or drivers) are the culprit. If you get the same errors running at standard speeds (100FSB) then you seem to have a problem. Soundcards are often problematic in oc'd machines, but should be stable. Time to go and get a PCI SB Live! or similar. I use a SB Live! Value up to 148FSB on a CUV4X with no problems.

Pete.

you might have some bad memory if that the case. if your fsb is 100Mhz and using Pc133 use should not have memory timmer ploblems. try running a mem test utility, i use a program called Doc memory for burn in testing problem computers.
You can download it for free from www.simmtester.com

Im thinking about leaving soundblaster, is turle beach montego 2 (pci) my right choice?

peteb or any other, I now tried a Soundblaster PCI 128, and I still have the same problem ;/ this is really making me insaine, what can i do about it???!?!?

Its kinda wierd, like my motherboard dont like soundcards!!!
how in hell could that be possible? it isnt, cause windows 98 runs fine with no crash, any windows 2000 genius people around here? the sounddriver for the PCI card is from 2000-11-07, that new I guess. Its crashing without any reason. I can only see "kmode exception not handled" no driver or application are shown.

Geez, you went from an ISA soundcard to an SB PCI 128. How much money are you trying to save? Just get an SB Live! They're cheap, industry standard, and Windows 2000 includes drivers that work perfectly fine. Just remember to reserve IRQ 5 for legacy devices. Wait, you do have that option set now don't you? That could easily be the root of all your trouble.

IRQ 5?
well windows shares IRQ 9 with the following hardware :
TNT 2 ULTRA AGP4x, INTEL EXPRESS 10/100 PCI, 3COM 10/100 PCI, SB 128 PCI.

Egads, everything on one IRQ!?! It works for some very lucky people but not most. In your BIOS, there should be an option that lets you set IRQ5 as "Reserved for legacy devices". Every computer I've seen has it. It's there to support older applications/games that use the old SB protocols or something like that. Also in your BIOS, there should be a setting for Plug & Play OS (Y/N). Set it to No. Even though Microsoft pretty much wrote the Plug & Play standard, most BIOSes do a better job of allocating different IRQs to different cards than Windows. If you use the search feature on this board, you'll find several posts about these issues with better explanations than I can give.

Its all because of windows ACPI, IRQ sharing, if I reinstall windows 2000 without ACPI, which would be "Standard PC" the IRQ sharing will stop, and I can configure my own IRQs, Right?

Yeah I've heard ACPI is the root of all of this too. Right now I'm running win98 on my new 1.2GHz Tbird system. I had 2000 on my old PII system but I don't know if ACPI was installed and can't check since I reformatted that drive and installed 98 when I gave it to my brother. I haven't bothered putting 2000 on my new system yet in part due to concerns about ACPI and having the kind of trouble you're having. As soon as someone explains how to install Win2K without ACPI (or I get around researching it myself) I'll probably give it another try.

one guy told me, when installing win2k, press F5 and choose standard pc ;>

go to device manager, expand computer, right click on Advanced configuration and power interface(ACPI) click properties.
go to the driver tab. click update driver. click display list of known drivers, click show all hardware of this device class, choose standard PC.
press OK, reboot, it will reinstall damn near every piece of hardware in the computer, usually with its own irq, you may have to modify it yourself still, but now you are able to.

why, oh WHY, is the world run by morons?

Yeah i have thought about doing that, as a final step.
What im worried about is, if you are changing from "standard PC" to "ACPI" the computer will hang and crash, thats what ive experienced before... (on other computer systems, PII)
But it might work backwards! :>

I had similar problem before but with windows 98se. So I am not sure if this will help. I assume that you have two nic on your system because you want to share internet connection. I was having some problem with Internet connection and sharing come with windows 98. This is a computer I have used for over 2 years and I never have any problem with it. When I get a new computer I set it up as the server and installed internet connection and sharing comes with windows 98se. The computer runs fine with all other application but every time I try to play winamp on it. It will crash. After I uninstall internet connection and sharing come with windows 98se and use sygate instead I never have problem again.

I've done it several times, worked out ok for me...
except for the POS computer I have to use it on...

I had the same problem like you...it's not your soundcard or anything, it's your TNT2.

You're probably using the Nvidia Detonator 3 6.50 drivers (the offical last version)?
Then that's your problem!

Use the Nvidia 7.52 or the 7.58 beta drivers for W2k instead; they are great and will solve all your 'kmode exception not handled' errors.

you can get them at: www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com

Good luck,
