My present specs are as follows;

I7 11700KF

Assassin IV CPU cooler

32GB DDR4 RAM @ 3200MHZ
Gigabyte RTX 4080 Eagle

Silverston 1000w PSU

Gigabyte M28U 4K monitor @ 144HZ

Various NVME and Internal SSDs.

I have an opportunity to swap out my i7 for an I9 10900K going from 8 cores /16 threads to 10 physical cores, and 20 threads, would this cpu swap out be considered a worthwhile upgrade?

On a common benchmark:

11700KF is 8 percent faster than 10900K on a single thread.

Multi thread: 11700KF is 4 percent faster.

I suppose you could concoct a use case in which the 10900K would be superior.

What is the working environment? Are there any performance problems now?

"Worthwhile" needs to be quantified. Measurable.

What performance boost is expected?

i7 performance now vs the potential future performance of the i9.

How much will that boost actually cost?

The i9 10900k will cost me $150 aud for a used cpu. My rig is used solely for 4k gaming, nothing else. Wondering if the i9 would get me better performance and fps than the i7 11700kf

I wouldn't even consider it.

But...................................

You may be willing to pay 150 aud or more for 2 FPS. Assuming that's true. I have no idea. Maybe you would require that the FPS gain be at least 10 FPS?

Maybe you are willing to pound on Google for 50 hours trying to find a specific benchmark for your specific game and settings. You might succeed.

The thread and core advantage of the 10900K may have little effect. Single thread performance has a lot of relevance in gaming...so I'm told.

Thanks for the response. I think you may have convinced me to stick with what I have....and be thankful for it.. Ha ha
