Hello. I have an A10-6800K CPU, and it stays at around 15ºC when idle (I guess that means the thermal paste is properly applied?), but after giving Prime95 a try I had to stop after almost 4 minutes, because it almost reached max 70ºC according to Core Temp

It's not the overclock (stock was 4.1Ghz, so difference is 0.1), because at stock speed I had to stop at 69ºC also. I haven't messed with voltage, 1.4v is the maximum according to this.

When I bought it the CPU didn't come with its own heatsink, so I'm using a spare one from an A8-6600K CPU; it's apparently fine, no noise, doesn't seem stuck.

Maybe it's a stupid question, but I never seen temps fluctuate this much on any CPU. Which one is the problem? Thermal paste, heatsink, both, or is it impossible to tell? The thing is, being a noob myself, getting a proper heatsink might be difficult, since I don't know which details to pay attention to.

Even if you got the stock cooler that came bundled with the A10-6800K, you're going to need an aftermarket cooler or an airconditioner.

I would advise that you look for an aftermarket cooler and make sure you've got good airflow in your case and across the motherboard's VRM's. Speaking of which, you should list your current system's specs like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

The problem is the heatsink(probably a multitude of other factors). What thermal paste did you use before you reseated the cooler(and removing the prior thermal paste)?

I'm sitting in front of an Athlon X4 760K and Aida64 shows 14ºC idle (but I don't believe it). The room is cold, but I doubt the ambient temperature is as low as 14ºC. Even if it is, the CPU is dissipating 15 to 20W idle so it's got to be hotter than indicated.

Get rid of the stock cooler and fit something bigger if you intend to use any kind of overclock.

CPU-World shows 74ºC max for the A10 APU and 100W TDP. With an overclock, you can expect it to draw more power.

Without removing the side panel I'm not sure if this PC has a Hyper212 or a mid size Noctua, but you'll struggle to keep an old AMD cool with the stock cooler and a hefty overclock.
