A10 am I missing out?

I just bought a a8-3870k the older apu series like 2-3 months ago and then these new a8-5600k and a10-5600k come out. I'm pretty mad

Am I missing out? How does the a8-3870k compare to the new stuff? And my system is in dual graphics with a 6670(max gpu you can pair up with) is the a10s the same? Is the 6670 the max you can pair up with? Also since the new a10s have an integrated 7660d while the old a8-3870k has a 6550d, would the graphics be much better with the 7660d+6670 than the 6550d+6670?

Its not worth the money to upgrade. You would have to not only buy the new cpu, but a new motherboard just for a slight improvement in performance.

That's why it's always good to post a question here at THG if you are not sure what's coming out in the near future that may affect your build. Well at least you'll know better next time.

Trinity is better than Llano, but as mentioned above, it's not worth spending money on upgrading for the small increase in performance.

At this point you already have the Llano APU and there is nothing you can do now. Yes the new APU's are bettr but it wouldn't be worth spending the money on a new CPU and motherboard.

If you really want to upgrade, wait for AMD's 2013 or 2014 release.

Also, CF with the current APUs is a gamble, you might get away, you might get hit with microstuttering. If you're looking at CF, I would recommend getting an i3 and buying a dedicated GPU.

That still wouldn't be worth it. He isn't going to get what he payed for the whole thing so he's still going to be taking a loss. Also as mentioned you would be going through all that trouble for only a slight increase in perfomance. It's not worth doing anything with it but keep it and next time ask before he buys.

It is a substantial enough increase gpu-wise, and somewhat cpu wise. But because you still can't play todays games on high settings without lowering the resolution when using Trinity; it doesn't mean all that much to upgrade to it from the the highest Llano. Unless you play mostly older games and stuff.

One reason I like Trinity is because the information I am getting is pointing to the socket it is using continuing. So I have an upgrade path later on when the next generation comes along, that will improve cpu and graphics at the same time.

..If you already bought llano then you should probably wait for the next generation to upgrade, if you want.

Or maybe by then you will have enough money to do something else.

Windows 8 should have performance increases for the bulldozer style architecture that the Piledriver modules Trinity uses improved upon as well.

trust me your A-3870k+ 6670 is a really good system. no need to worry about trinity . its better but not by a lot. also since you have a k series cpu you could overclock it if you want to gain some extra performance which will bring it on par with a stock trinity cpu. so dont worry.

Oh man, well performance wise you are looking at a 12-15% general performance increase, on the iGPU side around 20% average but in some apps you can see as high as 25%/35% performance differentials.

FM1 vs FM2 is where you are losing out, AMD unfortunately cut FM1 users badly but FM2 is the platform to be on, it has expansion to Steamroller and excavator based APU's, the boards have top class features and connectivity on a budget scale add excellent power phase VRM's it gives enthusiast level often under $100

Thanks guys, I wasn't gonna upgrade to the trinity because it would've been way too much work, I just wanted to know if I could've gotten something way better. So trinity is only slightly better right? Also I got my A8-3870k for such a steal, it was 80 bucks free shipping new. My 6670 was 65 bucks free shipping 😀

For the 12-15% increase is it really that much from just a CPU, don't forget my system isn't an A8-3870k by itself, it also has a 6670 hybrid crossfire.

A A10 w/6670 will deliver better FPS than the 3870K but the differential will not be worth the bother of a system overhaul. Like I say the only side you lose out on is the FM2 socket which is future ready for subsequent A-Series parts. FM2 boards notably the UP4 from Gigabyte and the ASRock Extreme 6 have features and connectivity a high end AM3+ or 1155 board will have for under the $130 mark.

why couldnt have amd used the FM1 socket for atleast one more generation? Dont you all feel trinity should have been on FM1 since trinity isnt that huge of an upgrade over llano

Its a architecture change, llano used individual stars cores of the old Athlon II's, while Trinity uses Piledriver modules, it also has added feature support so a new chipset was needed.
