A64

Having not seen A64 benchmarks I can't really say, but I think the P4 3.2C is better for the simple reason that IMO there won't be to many programs that support x86-64 in the near future

As long as it runs 32 just fine, 64 at the moment is just kinda like a bonus, and I suspect that it will be able to run my current 32 games well enough. Should the 64 become useful to me in the near future great, if not oh well. Of course, in the event it doesn't run my games well for some reason, I'll have purchased a p4 instead. :)

i thought it was only the MSI board with k8t800 chipset.

the advantage of A64 over the p4c 3.2ghz is not really that big. I'm just waiting for oct. 26 for intel p4 prices to drop and buy a 2.8C Ghz P4.

Actualy, by near future in meant about 18 months which sometimes is the life cycle of a computer. You might see some server or workstation apps that work at 64bit, but I don't think that things like home apps Nero or MSOffice and deffinitly not games.
On second thougt maybe there will be a 64bit Office since MS has been one of the first to support new techs, for example HT and WindowsXP 64bit.

wtf? the 3.2c is better than A64 3200+ because there won't be many 64bit programs in the near future? what shitty reason is that? we are talking about 32bit now, it can work for 32bit apps too you know! 64bit is just an extra bonus! i'm a little bit frustrated right now because some people here say things that simply don't make sense! we still haven't seen any benchmarks from any "major" hardware review site but if all the indications are true and the 3200+ offers the same performance overall as the 3.2c then its price at $400 is actually quite a bargain when the 3.2c sells for $600+. i just don't get it why Intel can charge that much money for its CPUs but AMD can't! and it's not even charging "that much money" anyway, imagine what you would say if they did!

I hate explaining myself...
When people buy an Itanium they must have some 64bit things they want it for. The 3200+ DOESN'T offer the same overall performance as the 3.2, adding 64bit capabilities when you don't need them doesn't make it a better CPU. I know that 64bit isn't the only thing new about A64 but since we don't really know how it performs, don't buy it for it being x86-64.

The 3200+ DOESN'T offer the same overall performance as the 3.2 ...
How do you know that and you even emphasize it by using capitals? A few words later you even say .. "since we don't really know how it performs". So decide which of the two! And who said that I (or even anyone for that matter) will buy this CPU now because of its 64-bit support? Customers will pick or not pick this CPU because of its 32-bit performance. And if it stands up to its PR (which seems to be the case), then its price is absolutely justified. That is my point and nothing else, because some of you rushed into accusing AMD for charging too much for this CPU.

A64 released in Japan. Today.
A bit deceptive for me, to announce a worldwide date of September 23rd that is actually a paper date for the North American launch. Damn it, Japanese get everything before us. 😡

Wonder if it's an FX.

but the europeans get all the cool cars 🙂
You are right! I live in Canada and I had the chance to drive a Renault Clio for 3 weeks a couple of years ago (the Diesel version). This was an amazing car to drive, real fun!

I also really like the Peugeot 206 design, it's look awesome! I'm reaaly happy right new because the Toyota Yaris (3 and 5 doors) are now sold in Canada as Toyota ECHO Hatchback. I will buy within the next year!

This was off-topic!

Would you buy a GPS enabled soap bar?

Wait until you see the brand new Audi A3 & VW Golf 5 :) Both cars are amazing .. excellent design :)))) Or the Peugeot 307 (a little older of course)

Again, this was off-topic :)

LOL, back in the days we had threads in the CPU forum solely on cars once they were diverted to car talk!

Don't worry, sidetrack away my little friends!

PS: The Japanese get the cool Squaresoft RPGs and most Nintendo games before us, so it isn't fair!!! 😱
